Four Poster Presentations at the 2023 American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting

Research partially funded by the Geoscience Research Institute was presented in poster format at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) meetings, held in San Francisco, CA – December 11-15, 2023.

The first poster, titled “Characterizing Proterozoic basements and accreted terranes in northwest Mexico using new ages and isotopic and elemental data of Laramide magmatism in Sonora and Sinaloa states,” explored the source of radiogenic isotope ratios for Laramide plutons, the changing influence in these rocks from different regional basements, and the effects of plate tectonic rates and subduction on isotope variation.

The second poster, titled “The puzzle of zoned plutons: Insights from Geochronology, Geochemistry, and Petrogenesis of the Box Springs Plutonic Complex, Peninsular Ranges Batholith, Riverside, California,” presented new data based on modern mapping techniques, petrology, and geochronology to unravel the formation of a zoned pluton.

The third poster, titled “Using modern field mapping techniques to characterize magmatic-hydrothermal IOCG deposit alteration zones in a Lower Cretaceous Peruvian plutonic complex,” was based on in-situ analyses, hand sample descriptions, and GIS methods for the characterization of alteration zones, mineralization types, and the magmatic-hydrothermal system of a plutonic complex.

The fourth poster, titled “Contrasting geochemistry of plutonic complexes of the Peruvian Coastal Batholith and their time of emplacement into the volcanic/sedimentary host rock of the Huarmey-Cañete basins,” investigated the order and timing of sedimentation, volcanism, and plutonism along the western margin of Peru during the Lower Cretaceous, using field observations, petrographic analyses, U-Pb geochronology, and elemental and isotopic whole rock analyses.
