Instructions for Authors of Origins Articles
Origins welcomes original manuscripts on topics related to an understanding of earth history from a creationist viewpoint, including both scientific and theological topics. Reports of original research are especially welcome, but review articles that reinterpret previously published data in a creationist context are also solicited.
Papers submitted to Origins must not have been submitted to other journals. Geoscience Research Institute retains the copyright on papers accepted for publication, with the understanding that such papers may be re-published in other formats, such as on the world-wide-web. Exceptions to this policy must be agreed on in writing.
Please submit three printed copies of the paper submitted, with numbered pages, and each with a numbered set of illustrations. Manuscripts should be printed with double spacing and margins of at least one inch. This will provide space for reviewers' comments. Twelve-point font is preferred. Include the author(s)' names, addresses, e-mail addresses and phone numbers. We encourage authors to suggest two names of potential reviewers, if possible.
Photographs and figures should be provided on separate sheets from the text, and sized at least as large as they are to appear in the publication. Line drawings and graphs should be submitted in camera-ready form and/or electronic format such as Excel. Contact us before sending figures in electronic format. A caption should be provided for each figure. The captions should be printed on a separate sheet. Each figure should be clearly numbered, and its approximate position in the text indicated. Potential cover photographs should be submitted in color. All other figures should be in black-and-white.
In the text, do not use hyphens to split words at the ends of lines, but leave words undivided. Use only one space after the period at the end of each sentence. Measurements should be expressed in international units, with or without conversion to American units.
Provide an abstract summarizing the major points of the article. Make the abstract simple enough so that non-experts in the area can grasp the main points of the article. The abstract should be about 50-200 words in length.
References may be provided in the form of either end-notes or author-date. See back issues of Origins for examples. In the Bibliography, list the complete article and journal or book title. Indicate all the page numbers in the article, not merely the first page. Name at least the first three authors, if there are that many.
After the paper is accepted for publication, and after the author has responded to the reviewers' comments, a revised printed copy should be submitted, together with an electronic copy in a Windows-compatible format. At that time, original photographs or negatives should be included.
